A very rare railroad marking with a spectacular two-tone movement finish, this example is notable for the superb preservation of its movement's two-tone color. This serial number is listed in the Hamilton ledger as having been sold on February 20th, 1900 to a purchaser in McCook, Nebraska, but the name of the purchaser is not readily legible in the ledger. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, winds a bit stiffly and has some audible creak while setting, overhaul recommended for normalized winding/setting function, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, superb two-tone color, patch of abrasion to inner perimeter of barrel bridge adjacent regulator adjustment screw, some fine scratches at left perimeter of barrel bridge, some dark spots to plate surface in space between third and fourth wheel jewel settings and case screw; dial with thin sliver of white fill material evident at seating of seconds-register indicating re-securing of dial segments and suggesting possibility that dial's outer chapter and/or seconds-register are replacements taken from another Hamilton dial as "donor," dial otherwise cosmetically superb with some mild edge rub under bezel; nearly mint hands; case shows virtually no wear, small nick to left center of front that is evident to inner surface of lid but with little (if any) exterior visibility, no dents or dings, superb crisp engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal. Fob and strap appear to be likely of relatively modern era creation, both in excellent cosmetic condition.
